FAQs
Detailed answers on the guided tour, catalog import, hub and troubleshooting. For daily help in the back office, see theAI co-pilot.
General — assistant vs. Co-pilot
What difference betweenYour assistantand theAI co-pilot ?
Your assistant (Tools → Your assistant) is a structured course, step by step, forfirst start-up : country, activity, catalog, account, payments, delivery, emails. He writes the settings to Configuration.
THECo-pilot(spark button, present on almost all Torlann pages) answers your questions as you go, offers guided tours and can rely on AI if you have connected an API key. It does not replace the startup wizard.
Does the wizard replace the Setup menu?
No. The wizard speeds up initial setup by asking the right questions in the right order. All settings remain accessible and can then be modified inConfiguration(VAT, email templates, design, etc.).
Do I need to configure everything in the wizard before adding a product manually?
No. You can exit the wizard (see below) and create products fromCatalog → Products. On the other hand, as long as the setup is not markedready, some dashboard actions can remain “finish configuration” oriented.
Access, navigation and immersive mode
Where to open the wizard?
Torlann Menu:Tools → Your assistant.
To thefirst activationon a new site, Torlann can redirect you there automatically and temporarily hide the side menu (full screen mode) until the end route or until you exit the wizard.
Why am I redirected to the wizard every time Torlann clicks?
The setup is not yet complete (ready status) and you have not exited the wizard. Torlann takes you back to the course to avoid a half-configured shop.
Solutions: complete the wizard, or click on thecrosstop right to “Exit the wizard” and access the full menu.
How do I exit the wizard before it finishes?
Use thecross (×)in the top bar during immersive mode. Your already validated entries are kept; the setup remainsin progress. You find the dashboard and the usual Torlann menu.
How do I resume the wizard after leaving it?
Return toTools → Your assistant. The route resumes at the last unfinished step (or at the welcome screen if nothing has started).
What do I see based on my store status?
Torlann displays the most relevant screen:
- Welcome— setup not completed, no flow in progress;
- Wizard— step-by-step configuration (country, activity, catalog, etc.);
- Import catalog— analysis, correspondence, overview;
- Pictures— processing of visuals after import;
- Finished— recap once (first completion);
- Catalog hub— import/export and transfer of config once the store is ready.
Configuration wizard steps
What are the stages of the guided tour?
Typical progress bar (some steps may be hidden depending on your choices):
- Welcome
- Country— currency, VAT and main language
- Regions— if the country manages several sales zones
- Activity— products or services, method of sale
- Your products— example model or file import
- Your account— identity, contact, logo
- Payment— if online or mixed sales
- Delivery— if physical products + online sales
- Emails— sender and notifications
- Verification / Done
The stepCountry & taxationDetailed information may appear depending on the market. ConsultConfigurationfor advanced settings.
Why do certain steps disappear (Payment, Delivery, etc.)?
Torlann adapts the wizard to your answers:
- Quote only— the Payment and Delivery steps are hidden;
- Services without shipping— Delivery can be skipped;
- CSV import successful— the “Your products” step (structure + mode) may already be set;
- Countries without regions— the Regions step does not appear.
What do the statuses meanin progress, almost readyAndready ?
- In progress— the wizard is not completed;
- Almost ready— products exist but setup steps are still missing;
- Ready— assistant course completed; the catalog hub and full menu are available.
Have products (e.g. demo)is not enoughto mark the store ready: you must have validated the course or the obligatory stages.
Can I go back with the Back button?
Yes, on most stages of the wizard. The steps already validated or become unnecessary (e.g. after an import) can be removed from the progress bar to avoid blank screens — the Back button then takes you back to the previous useful step.
Are the settings entered in the wizard final?
No. Each validation writes to the Torlann options (Configuration), which you can change at any time. The wizard is a shortcut, not a lock.
Countries, regions and taxation
Why choose the country from the start?
The country of the store determines thecurrency, thereDefault VAT, THEcarriers offered, legal fields (SIRET, RCS, etc.) and language main email address. This is a structuring choice — which can then be modified in Configuration, but to stabilize before opening to the public.
When does the Regions step appear?
Only for countries where Torlann manages several sales regions (e.g. certain federations). You can cover the entire country or limit it to the areas you actually serve.
I entered the wrong country — how do I correct it?
Go toConfiguration → Country & taxation(or repeat the step concerned if the wizard is still active). Then check currency, VAT, carriers and legal notices.
Activity and mode of sale
What does the Activity / What are you selling step ask?
You indicate whether you mainly sellphysical productsorservices, then thecatalog mode:
- Online sales + quote— basket, orders and quote form;
- Online sales only— no Quote menu;
- Quote only— no online payment or delivery.
Details:Configuration → Catalog.
In Quote mode only, what happens in the wizard?
The stepsPaymentAndDeliveryare omitted. You configure identity, catalog (or import), quote notification emails, and the public form in Configuration → Quotes.
Can I change my sales mode after setup?
Yes, inConfiguration → General → Catalog. The Torlann menu adapts (hiding Orders, Quotes, Payments, etc. depending on the mode). Remember to check public pages and customer journeys after the change.
Catalog — example model and import
What are the two choices in the Your Products stage?
- Example model— preloaded Torlann catalog (craft products, variants, images, promos, quote scenarios). No files to prepare; click onContinueto start the automatic import.
- Import my file— submit yourExcel or CSV(personal product list).
The “I start my store without file” option no longer exists: then add products from Products if you prefer to enter by hand.
What does the sample template contain?
A demonstration CSV (~8 artisan/small brand type products) with categories, attributes, variants, promo price, weight, image URLs and quote compatible examples. Ideal for testing mapping, public store and back office before your real catalog.
Can I skip the import and add products later?
Yes. You can advance in the wizard without importing, then create files inProducts. Import remains available from the assistant (hub) or the product list.
What file formats are accepted?
CSV, TXT(separator recognized automatically) andXLSX(Excel).
Recommended encoding: UTF-8 for accents and currency symbols.
Does Torlann recognize WooCommerce, Shopify or PrestaShop?
Yes. The scan detects several common export formats and provides aautomatic matchingcolumns (mapping). You can manually adjust in the Matching step if necessary.
Which columns are required?
At a minimum:product nameAndprice.
Useful columns: SKU, categories, stock, weight, descriptions, image URLs,
variant attributes,product_id / variant_idfor reimports.
How does column mapping work?
After uploading, Torlann:
- Analysisthe file (100% local, without AI);
- Propose amappingcolumns → Torlann fields;
- Displays apreview(creations, updates, unchanged lines);
- Execute itimportafter your validation.
If the detection is reliable, the mapping step can be short or automatic.
Does import delete my existing products?
No by default.The import is anon-destructive synchronization: it creates or updates according to the preview plan, without emptying the store.
A modecrushingmay require explicit confirmation if products already exist. Torlann never automatically deletes products that are not in the file.
How to identify a product between two imports?
Matching order:
- product_id(Torlann export column);
- SKUs ;
- Otherwisecreationof a new product.
The match on name alone is not used. For reimports, first export your catalog from the hub or Products to store identifiers.
Can I import from Products instead of the wizard?
Yes.Catalog → Products → Importuses the same engine (analysis, mapping, overview). The wizard remains recommended at the first launch because it continues with account, payments and emails.
Photos and visuals
Why a Photos step after import?
If your file containsRemote image URLs, Torlann puts them in line waiting and downloads them asynchronously (so as not to block the import). The Photos step allows you to track progress and complete missing visuals.
Can I ignore the photos and continue setup?
Yes. You can resume the wizard (identity, payments, etc.) and process the images later from the catalog hub or by editing the product sheets.
How to provide the images?
- URLs in the CSV (automatic download or dedicated step);
- archiveZIPor cloud link (Drive, Dropbox, etc.) depending on the screen offered;
- manual upload product by product;
- URLs on thesame domainque le site : copie locale immédiate à l’import.
What is the variation images stage?
Company name or commercial name, contact email and telephone number, logo if available. Legal fields (SIRET, intracom VAT, legal form, RCS) depending on your country — assisted filling possible in France via company research.
Should I install an SMTP plugin?
No.Torlann optimizes deliverability automatically (sender alignment on the site domain, queue and retries in case of failure). Customer responses arrive at your contact address (Reply-To).
Which payment methods should you activate in the wizard?
- Virement bancaire— disponible sans option Pro (IBAN / instructions) ;
- stripeetPayPal— Pro features (API keys required);
- at least one active way if you sell online.
The Stripe / PayPal toggles are grayed out — why?
Without a Pro license (or on the Free WordPress.org edition), advanced payment methods arelocked : the toggle remains deactivated and an insert offers moving upmarket. The transfer remains usable.
When does the Delivery step appear?
If you sellphysical productsonline (not in quote mode only). You configure one or more carriers, fixed rates or weight levels, possibly collected on site (click & collect).
Can I refine carriers and rates after the wizard?
Yes, inConfiguration → Shipping: zones, levels, free delivery, product weight on each sheet.
Catalog hub and after setup
When does the Completed screen appear?
Once all mandatory steps have been validated. The end screen (recap + next actions) only appearsonly onceby installation, then you go to the hub.
What is the catalog hub?
Catalog dashboard visible when setup isready: reimport/synchronize, export CSV, transfer store configuration (JSON), access to variation photos. This is not the first installation screen.
How do I update my catalog from the hub?
Submit a new CSV/XLSX (preferably exported from Torlann withproduct_id).
The same analysis → preview → import flow applies. A summary screen confirms synchronization.
Can I transfer my configuration to another site?
Yes, from the hub: export / import of a filestore configuration(Torlann settings, not the products). Products go through separate CSV export.
Demo, license and editions
On demo.torlann.com, is import limited?
Yes. The sandbox account (demo / demo-demo) imposes often thesample catalogand disables the free import of personal files. Real Stripe and some options are also restricted.
What does “Apply recommended demo settings” do?
Only in demo environment: quickly pre-populates identity, carrier and test payments to explore the store without entering everything by hand.
Does CSV import require a license?
On torlann.com (active license), CSV import/export is included. The editionFreeon WordPress.org also includes basic CSV import; some surfaces display a padlock for Pro functions depending on the installed edition.
What happens if my license expires during setup?
The back office remains viewable and your entries are retained. New product creation and online sales may be suspended until renewal. SeeInstallation → Expiration.
Troubleshooting
I have products but the wizard doesn't complete — why?
Demo or imported products do not automatically mark the setupready. Complete the remaining steps (account, payment if sale, emails, etc.) or check the status in the Torlann dashboard.
My import fails — what to check?
- CSV/XLSX format and UTF-8 encoding;
- ColumnsnameAndpricewell mapped;
- File size and server PHP upload limits;
- Overwrite confirmation if requested and products already present;
- On demo: personal import may be blocked.
Remote images not downloading
Common causes:
- URL inaccessible from the server (hotlink, HTTPS, firewall);
- import interrupted before the end of the photos job — resume from the Photos step or the hub;
- hosting limiting outgoing requests — contact your host.
Does deactivating then reactivating the plugin restart the wizard?
No.Disabling retains Torlann options. Only thedeletionof the plugin (complete uninstallation) erases the setup and allows you to replay a first installation.
How to start from scratch on a test site?
On a disposable site: remove the Torlann plugin (not just deactivate),
reinstall, or clear optionstorlann_settingsif you know what you're doing.
Save products and orders first if the site is real.
I'm stuck — where can I get help?
Use theCo-pilotfor questions punctual, this guide for the procedure, and thesupport torlann.comfor a blocking case (licensing, hosting, complex import).
